October 21 is National Check Your Meds Day. Consumers are encouraged to bring their prescription drugs and supplements to their local pharmacy for a brown bag medication review. Pharmacists can remove any prescriptions that have expired, update prescriptions as necessary, and answer any related questions.
Why is National Check Your Meds Day important?
More than half of adult Americans regularly take at least one prescription drug, according to a recent Consumer Reports survey. National Check Your Meds Day ensures that consumers are safely taking the right doses and the right prescriptions. By participating, consumers can be reassured that their meds are in good hands and that they’re doing the right things to maintain good health.
How Do I Participate?
- Gather up all of your medications and supplements.
- Get your medications checked at the local pharmacy. Be sure to contact your pharmacy in advance to see if they are participating or if any other options are available.
- Encourage friends and family to participate, especially any older adults who rely on prescription medications in daily life.
