Considering a career change? You are not alone. It isn’t uncommon for people who have decades under their professional belts to rethink their career path. Gayle Motsinger, a Hosparus Health RN, became a nurse in 2005 and gained extensive experience over the years at small, rural hospitals. From cardiac rehab to oncology, from obstetrics to surgery, she has a tremendous amount of nursing knowledge. But eventually, high turnover and working conditions made nursing feel untenable. She even considered leaving the profession entirely.
“I felt very undervalued. The job wasn’t what I envisioned my nursing career to be,” she says. “I had four children who were entering the workforce, and they were so excited about their careers. They were loving to go to work, and I wanted that again,” she adds. Fortunately, Gayle has rediscovered that passion at Hosparus Health as a hospice admissions nurse.
“You can never have too many people who love you, and that is what Hosparus Health brings to patients and families during incredibly challenging times.” — Gayle Motsinger, Hosparus Health RN
Gayle has a strong sense of autonomy and empowerment that she didn’t experience in her previous healthcare roles. She spends time connecting with patients and their families, often during their most difficult moments, to assess whether Hosparus Health can provide help. Gayle values her ability to surround families with compassionate care and support. “You can never have too many people who love you, and that is what Hosparus Health brings to patients and families during incredibly challenging times,” she says.
Sara Williams, an RN and VP of Specialty Hospice Care who has been with the organization for 12 years, says many nurses in a hospital setting are assigned 5-8 patients at a time, making it difficult for them to give their undivided attention to anyone. “At Hosparus Health, nurses visit one patient at a time,” Sara says. “You really get to know the patient and their family and can ensure they get the care they deserve.”
The flexibility of the work, including part-time and work-from-home options, is another reason why Hosparus Health is an appealing place of employment for nurses who are looking for that second or third act of their careers. Hosparus Health is intentional about helping nurses find a role that really fits their needs because they know just how valuable decades of nursing knowledge is. “The experience that those nurses have obtained in their careers can help our patients so much,” Sara says.
The desire to provide meaningful care to others is what attracts many to a career in nursing, and that desire doesn’t just go away once a person has reached a certain age. Fortunately, for those facing burnout or looking for a change, Hosparus Health offers unique nursing opportunities to reignite a passion for their profession and continue their nursing careers. Nurses feel empowered to care more fully while providing compassionate support to patients when it’s needed most.
