August in Cincy is full of activities to get you moving, grooving, and eating! Make sure to check out the one-of-a-kind festivals, concerts, and food-centric events happening throughout the month, and wrap up your summer with a flourish.
Start your August off cool and sporty with The Ohio River Paddlefest. This is the nation’s largest paddling celebration with 2,000 paddlers traveling up to 9 miles on canoes, kayaks, and other people-powered vessels. Come out to the river on August 3 to paddle or cheer on those participating.
If you prefer land-based activities, get your steps in with dancing every Thursday night in August at Salsa on the Square. Practice your Merengue, Cumbia, and, of course, Salsa dancing while listening to the best Latin bands in the region. If you’ve never “salsa’ed,” don’t worry, dance instructors are on hand to help your feet. Happy Hour offers $1 off all alcoholic beverages, and Mexican food is available when you need a snack break.
From August 15-18, the 36th annual Black Family Reunion will be “celebrating the historic strengths and values of the Black family.” Free events including a job fair, parade, and concerts will be happening in selected spots all over town. But it doesn’t stop there – you and your family can enjoy speakers, gospel choirs, and more as part of this inspirational event. This same weekend, the Great Inland Seafood Festival gives you the chance to sample Maine lobsters or a tasty array of fish dishes. Nothing “fishy” about this event located at Newport Festival Park.
For over 20 years, Cincy has been gettin’ down with Ault Park’s free Summer Music Festival. On August 15, Floyd and the Walkman will be the musical guest, so enjoy the tunes while you also enjoy your favorite foods and drinks. Then finish up your month (and get ready for fall) with the sixth annual Sayler Park Oktoberfest. Head down to the park for music, food, and…you guessed it, beer! Prost!
