October is putting a spell on Louisville with all your favorite seasonal activities, from pumpkins to good eats to beverages you can sip under the changing fall leaves.
Start your October off in the right spooky spirit with the much-anticipated Jack O’Lantern Spectacular at Iroquois Park. Walk through the woods from Oct. 1 – Nov. 2, marveling at over 5,000 glowing jack o’ lanterns. These artistically carved pumpkins will ignite your imagination and the Halloween spirit in your whole family. Tickets are available online and your purchase supports the nonprofit Parks Alliance of Louisville.
If you need more pumpkins in your life, the Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom won’t disappoint. You’ll want to see the over 1,000 pumpkins at the park, check out the pumpkin sculptures, and get lost in a hay maze! From October 3 and ending just in time for tricks or treats on October 27, stay after dark to watch the park glow. Follow up your spooky experience with a Victorian Ghost Walk tour floating through historic Old Louisville on October 18-20. This under-two-hour walking “progressive porch play” starts at 6pm, and groups leave every 45 minutes from the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum on St. James Court at Magnolia Ave.
And, no… we haven’t forgotten the St. James Art Show in the historic St. James Court from October 4-6. It wouldn’t be October without this event featuring 600 juried artists from all over the U.S. The show is now in its 68th year and was named the “#1 Best Fine Art and Design Show” by Sunshine Artist magazine. Admission is free.
Mark your calendars because Friday, October 20 is Beer Fest at the German-American Club. Listen to great music and sample local brews and tasty food from 5-10 pm. Tickets are available online. Then end your month with a savory favorite at Taco Fest, back on at 4th Street Live the weekend of October 23-24. Grab a margarita with your tacos and other fare like churros, tamales, nachos, and more. Enjoy some “taco-themed fun” with live entertainment and an authentic Mariachi band, but save enough room for Halloween candy since trick or treating is just around the corner.
