Caregivers, looking for a way to ring in the new year with your loved one? Today’s Transitions put together a quick guide for a fun New Year’s Eve, without all the fuss.
- Plan a Game Night: Who doesn’t love games? The friendly competition will keep your loved one engaged while providing hours of entertainment. Allow them to choose some of their favorites and let the games begin. For added fun, keep score and crown a 2022 New Year’s Eve Champion.
- Prepare a Favorite Meal: Plan a menu of favorite foods or try some traditional good luck foods, such as black-eyed peas, greens, and cornbread.
- Watch the Ball Drop: Count down the famous Times Square Ball Drop as the clock strikes midnight. If midnight is a little late for your crowd, choose an earlier time and create your own countdown. Throw in noisemakers for added fun!
- Take a Stroll Down Memory Lane: For an evening with a little more nostalgia, sit down with a few photo albums and take a trip down memory lane. Allow your loved one to share their favorite memories and discuss highlights of events that occurred over the past year.
- Write Down New Year’s Resolutions: Want to get into shape this year or take on a new hobby? New Year’s is a great time to cross things off your to-do list or get motivated to tackle new things.
- Host Movie Night: Curl up with your favorite blanket and watch movies. Choose your favorites or go with a New Year’s theme, such as Chimes at Midnight (1965), Holiday (1938), ‘Til We Meet Again (1940), Rent (2005), or Holiday Inn (1942).
- Get Out and About: If your loved one is able and willing, plan to go to dinner, a movie, or check out local events in your area for a fun night on the town. For some New Year’s Eve happenings in Louisville, click here.
- Plan a New Year’s Day Brunch: If staying up late is not your thing, plan a New Year’s Day brunch. Make a reservation at a local restaurant or host your own at home. Keep it small or invite family, friends, or grandkids.
